Actually, I would say it's a mistake in the original - I just checked both versions (German and English) and in both of them the text is the same - Tom asks about his injuries and Rainer replies that he's had just "few broken bones, some burns and probably minor internal injuries." Then he mentions the head injury but says he appears to be completely coherent, and adds/finishes with "Your prothesis is operational." which doesn't make sense at all, since he just said he's only had few broken bones and burns, but nothing else, and Tom just thanks him and reacts normally - if he had had a prosthetic he most likely would've commented on it, the same way he interjected when Rainer was talking about the Iskai, saying he wants to know about what happened.

Like someone else said, it's possible it was supposed to be prognosis, which would make sense in that context. Or it was left in from the time when he was supposed to have a prosthetic arm.
